Guided Meditation Mp3's - How Are Binaural Beats Used in Meditation?

Are you interested in learning meditation fast? You probably already know about the nearly endless advantages of meditation. The objective of meditation is to unwind the brain, permit your mind to be at in complete state of peace and release yourself of all the things cluttering your thoughts.

If you're like a lot of meditation rookie, seeing progress in meditation can be difficult. Often times people are discouraged from this lack of development and give up early on, but it is vital that you keep practicing. Since all people's learning styles are different, you should be aware of your own learning style and try to meet its needs. For auditory learners, you may be interested to know about a particular meditation technology known as binaural "beats" or special auditory frequencies which can be used to put your mind in an Alpha brain state, also known as the state of relaxation. These binaural beats are utilized in guided meditation mp3's and can allow your experience with meditation to reach new levels.

HERTZ

Binaural beats aren't some sort of magic and they are not a fake technology, there is a real science behind exactly how they work and why. When you listen to binaural beats, there is an alignment of separate frequencies in your brain, thus easing your thoughts and body into an state of relaxation which opens your mind to a different kind of consciousness. The secret is to put on earphones, because this way the beats being played into each ear will induce the alignment of your brain waves. The way this works is that your brain will naturally synchronize itself to a frequency which is equal to the difference between each ear bud's rhythm. Since an Alpha brain state is between 8-12 hertz, listening to a binaural mp3 with a frequency of 110 hertz in one ear and 100 hertz in the other (a difference of 10 hertz) will induce an Alpha brain state at a frequency of 10 hertz. Personally, I would suggest using noise canceling headphones to ensure no outside sounds are interfering with the binaural beats. Therefore, if you were to attempt listening to binaural frequencies on regular speakers the frequencies will not be delivered to your brain correctly because your brain will not be able to differentiate which ear is receiving which frequency.

With binaural frequencies humming on your ears the frustration is taken out of meditating because you no longer have to get yourself "in the zone" by natural means. This way, you can focus on whatever you need to meditate on, rather than wasting all your energy trying to reach the point of meditation. So what are you waiting for? Get out there and start meditating!

Musical Frequencies Deepen Meditation?

As sound frequencies can affect our moods and emotions, we may use typical musical frequencies to deepen our mind state to take us to meditative states much quicker. Binaural beats and relevant music can be utilised to slow down brainwaves and put us in deep meditation within a matter of minutes.

It is the frequency range of less than 4 Hz, typical Delta waves that are apparent in deep dreamless sleep and loss of body consciousness.

HERTZ

When we just can't stop the mind from racing, cannot stop moving or can't stop thinking, they are in the Beta or Gamma range, a peak state so that we can think and move and work. To experience a true meditative state we need to lower your brain waves so that we are in the Alpha, Theta or better still, the Delta ranges.

The beta and gamma brainwaves are seen to be in the range of 14-40 Hertz, while the alpha waves are typically in the 7-14 Hertz which is the pre-sleep or pre-wake drowsiness.

The theta waves patterns, typical of deep meditation and relaxation are in the range of 4 to 7 Hertz.

So, music with the right frequencies and beats can help tremendously in taking us quickly to deep meditation which could be a great help in the healing arts, as these meditative states hasten the self-healing abilities of the mind and body.

There are, of course, undisputed benefits of meditation, notably:

Deep meditative states increase serotonin formation which influence mood and behavior. Since low levels of serotonin are believed to be associated with depression, obesity, insomnia and headaches, we may have a natural remedy for these ills.

Research has also revealed that meditation reduces emotional and physical stress.

Meditation increases activity of 'natural-killer cells', which kill bacteria and cancer cells, as well as reducing the activity of viruses.

Other quite apparent benefits are of course slowing down the heart rate, lowering the blood pressure, enhancing the immune system and decreasing muscular tension.

Unfortunately, achieving the deeper state of meditation takes a lot of practice, time and patience, and it is worthwhile if the right music frequencies could induce these states of mind. Perhaps, soon enough, some innovative people with musical skill would be inspired by sound sciences to create just the right notes to put us into deep meditation at the push of a button.

If this is beginning to seem like a science fiction article, let me assure you, it is science fiction.

Deep meditative state is a pure awareness, devoid of anything, beyond the human mind, since triggered states are merely that, manifested experiences. While pure meditation is simply awareness of both the manifest and then unmanifest reality that is Brahman.

And, reality, as pure awareness, can be stranger than fiction. That is a fact.

Choosing the Best Meditation Music

How do you choose the best meditation music? Baroque music is often recommended, and particular pieces may have the right number of beats-per-minute to alter your brainwaves. But more on that in a moment. The science isn't that settled in this area yet, and you may find that any music which you don't enjoy will just distract you rather than help your meditative state.

Personal experimentation is called for then. You can start with baroque if you like. Compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach are commonly recommended. Try "Prelude from Cello Suite" or "Allemande" (Cello Suite 3). Frederick Handel's music works well for many as well.

But you don't have to limit your experimentation to classical music. Meditation music can include Jazz, guitar and Indian sitar compositions too. Gregorian chants are used by some, as are CDs with the sounds of nature mixed in with the music. We're all unique enough that different things will work better for each of our meditation practices.

However, there is one element that can really improve meditation music. It is the addition of "binaural beats." These are cyclic pulsations caused by having the same notes or sounds on an audio recording, but slightly out of tune with each other. The effect is to "entrain" your brainwaves, meaning they begin to follow the beats. This technology of "brainwave entrainment" has been around for a couple decades now, but it is being used more often now.

The idea is that the beats in the music will slow your brainwaves down so you go from the normal waking or "Beta" state of consciousness (14 to 30 hertz) to and "Alpha" brainwave state (8 - 14 hertz) or deeper. The alpha state is one of relaxed alertness, and is considered a light meditative state. The "Theta" state (4 - 8 hertz) is one of deeper meditation - if you stay awake (drowsiness is common).

Do this kind of meditation music work? My wife and I have tried several different products, and yes, brainwave entrainment works. My meditation CDs quickly put me into a relaxed meditative state, and the ones designed to synchronize brainwaves to the theta range (4 - 8 hertz) either facilitate deep meditation or, if I am laying down, put me to sleep. My wife found greater self awareness and less stress as results of listening as well.

So which is the best meditation music? Many kinds may work well. But what is added to the music may be the most important thing.

What Can Brainwave Meditation Do For You?

Meditation is a well-researched topic. Science has shown repeatedly that it does, indeed, have an affect on the mind and its frequencies. Only a few minutes of meditation can alter the way you feel on a sluggish afternoon. Over the years, brainwave meditation, also known as brainwave entrainment, has been getting the attention of researchers who have conducted studies into the efficacy of this technology.

Short, Powerful Sessions

HERTZ

Most people do brainwave entrainment with a CD or some other form of audio. During the 30-60 minute sessions, the participant actively uses his or her mind to visualize various scenarios, as guided by the narrator. Not all CDs have a vocal component.

Binaural Beats

To create the binaural beat, one frequency is heard in one ear and another frequency is heard in the other ear. The brain takes those two frequencies and figures the difference between them, creating an additional beat, known as the binaural beat, which is inside of the mind. These beats are capable of altering your brain patterns, leaving you feeling energized, relaxed and ready for the remainder of your day.

Brainwave Frequencies

The Delta frequency is between one and three Hertz. In this state, deep sleep occurs. In Theta, four to seven Hertz, deep relaxation, meditation, improved memory and focus all take place. Alpha frequency, 8-12 Hz, is light relaxation, improved learning and positive thinking. Beta, 13-25 Hz is the normal state of alertness. The specific brainwave meditation audio that you use depends on what state you want to reach. All of the benefits of meditation, including stress reduction, enhancing the immune system, reduction in anxiety attacks, decreasing breath and heart rate, among others, still occur during brainwave meditation. The binaural beats simply enhance was is already occurring during meditation.

Solutions To Common Problems

Brainwave meditation can assist people with chronic insomnia, release headaches, and help people draw on their own natural creativity, focus and energy. In addition, this brain entrainment technology has been used to assist people with anxiety-related mental illnesses, children with autism and other developmental disabilities, attention deficit disorder, addictions and depression. People who have a seizure disorder should not do this type of meditation.

Backed By Scientific Research

When this type of meditation was initially discovered, many people were skeptical of its validity and thought that it was just some new age mysticism that they could easily dismiss. Over the years, with more and more research proving its use, brainwave meditation has come into the mainstream. Researchers continue to explore the many uses of this technology.
